How to Choose the Right Flake Blend (Chips) for Your Space

The flake blend is the personality of your floor — it's the first thing people notice and the thing you'll see every single day. With dozens of blends to choose from, decision paralysis is real. Here's the exact process we walk our customers through.

Start with the light in your space

Garages with little natural light come alive with lighter blends — grays, tans, and blends with white content bounce light around and make the space feel bigger. Spaces with big windows or outdoor exposure can carry dark, dramatic blends like Nightfall or Carbon without feeling heavy.

Five rules we give every homeowner

• Match your home's existing palette — pull a tone from your brick, trim, or cabinetry and the floor will feel custom-built.
• Mid-tone blends hide dirt best. Very light and very dark floors both show more day-to-day dust.
• Busy blends (lots of contrasting flake colors) disguise imperfections in older concrete better than quiet blends.
• Always view samples in YOUR light, not in a showroom — colors shift dramatically between daylight and garage lighting.
• When torn between two, choose the calmer one. Floors are big surfaces; subtle reads elegant at scale.

The two-minute test

Take your top two samples outside at noon, and again at dusk. Look at them from standing height — not crouched down. The blend that still excites you in both lights, from the distance you'll actually see it, is your floor.
